Ready to Graduate?

That diploma is almost in your hands! Check out these to-dos to make sure you're up-to-date with deadlines, commencement details, and everything post-grad life entails.

Undergraduate Graduation To-Dos

You've taken the tests, written the essays, and crushed the group projects — but there's a few more steps you need to take to make sure you're ready to graduate.

In collaboration with advising, your online degree audit is a powerful tool to help you plan your academics and track completion of degree requirements. Utilize your audit to track your progress and contact your academic advisor if you have any questions. Degree audits can be viewed through MavLINK via the ‘Degree Audit’ tab. NOTE: DegreeWorks is slowly being phased out and replaced with a new audit system called Stellic. Students on the 2024-2025 academic catalog and later catalogs will be able to view their degree audit in Stellic, and students on prior catalogs will still be in DegreeWorks. Click one of the following links to learn how to read your audit in Stellic or DegreeWorks.

All Arts and Sciences students are strongly recommended to have a Senior Check within one year of graduation after completing 91 credit hours of coursework. A Senior Check is an audit of a prospective graduate’s academic record in which the student is sent an official list of remaining degree requirements. Senior Checks can prevent errors and graduation delays. Submit a request via the Undergraduate Senior Check Form. If you have already had a Senior Check and followed the advice on it, you do not necessarily need to submit another form request.

Once you have reached the final semester in your degree program, you must apply to graduate, whether you plan to participate in Commencement or not. This is done through MavLINK under the “Academics” side bar menu. Please below for information on deadline dates for current and future semesters. Directions and guidelines on completing this process can be found on the Registrar’s webpage. There is a $35.00 Application for Degree fee payable at the time the application is submitted. There is a $5.00 fee for certificate programs.

Graduation Date: December 19, 2025
  • Application Due: October 17, 2025

Graduation Date: July 31, 2026
  • Application Due: June 26, 2026

  • Final grades must be posted and all transcripts must be received by the Office of the Registrar: TBA

NOTE: Students can graduate in one of three different times during a year: May, August, or December. Commencement is offered two times a year – May and December. At the time of application, August graduates may select the option to walk in either the preceding May or following December commencement ceremony. August graduates that plan to walk in the May ceremony must apply by the May graduation deadline listed above.

UNO Academic regalia is required for those planning to participate in the ceremony. Students not wearing UNO academic regalia will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony. Purchase your cap, gown, and graduation announcements through the UNO Bookstore. Deadlines to order various items will differ depending on the ceremony. Please contact the UNO Bookstore at 402.554.2336 with any questions.

Students should work with faculty to resolve any outstanding grades from current or prior semesters as soon as possible, but no later than 15 business days following Commencement, shown as the right-most deadline in the above table. If you will be unable to successfully complete all requirements for your degree(s) by the posted deadline, or if you need to postpone your graduation, please withdraw your application to graduate by contacting the Arts and Sciences Advising Center at 402.554.2458 or unoasgraduation@unomaha.edu. When you are ready to reapply within MavLINK, you will not need to pay the application fee again.

Diplomas will be mailed to students 15-20 business days following Commencement. Official transcripts are available at a reduced cost to the student ($3.00) for 60 days following graduation. (Order transcripts through MavLINK under “Academics.”) Diplomas and transcripts will not be released for students who have outstanding debts or fees owed to the University of Nebraska system. Please be sure all financial holds are cleared and that the address listed on the degree application is correct, as this is where your diploma will be mailed.

Frequently Asked Questions

There's a lot to take in — but we're here to connect your questions to answers.

Common Graduation Questions

A senior check is an audit of a prospective graduate’s academic record in which an official list of remaining degree requirements is provided to the student. It is important to request a senior check so that the Arts and Sciences Advising Center and your department advisor can help you make sure you are on track to graduate. You can fill out your Senior Check Form online!

We strongly encourage all undergraduate students to request a Senior Check once they have completed 91 credit hours of coursework.

If a student does not request a Senior Check, the responsibility for meeting the requirements for graduation falls on the student; if errors are made, they can prevent graduation at the anticipated date.

Students can have a Senior Check completed by doing one of the following options:

  • Schedule an appointment with an advisor to go over the remaining degree requirements
  • Submit an electronic request using the Undergraduate Senior Check Form.

Once the request is completed, an official list of the remaining degree requirements will be sent to the student’s UNO email address.

Stellic and DegreeWorks are online degree audits that list all of a student’s requirements in an easily readable format. The information in Stellic or DegreeWorks can be viewed by your academic advisor as well as you.

It is a great tool for helping you stay on track for graduation and to prepare for advising appointments. You can explore with your advisor different possibilities if you are thinking about making a change to your academic program

Students have access to Stellic or DegreeWorks through their MavLINK homepage via the "Degree Audit" tab.

DegreeWorks is slowly being phased out and replaced with the new audit system, Stellic. Students on the 2024-2025 academic catalog and later catalogs will be able to view their degree audit in Stellic, and students on prior catalogs will still be in DegreeWorks.

When you sign up for your last semester of classes...

DegreeWorks should show:

  • Progress bar at 98% completion (Not 97% or 99%)
  • Credits showing 100 % complete
    • No RED should be in your audit

Stellic should show:

  • "All Credits" bar and "Milestones" bar at the top should show "0 remaining."
  • All requirement sections in your audit should have a green or yellow check mark.
    • No RED should be in your audit

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 is required to graduate.
  • A minimum of 120 completed credit hours is required to graduate.
  • A minimum of 27 completed credit hours of upper-division (3000/4000 level) coursework (effective Fall 2017).

All required courses must be completed with a "C-" or higher. (NOTE: Some programs require a "C" or higher in major and/or minor coursework. Please check with your major/departmental advisor on your program’s grade requirement.)

You must complete an Application for Degree during the semester in which you plan to graduate. Application for Degree deadlines are in the academic calendar.

Log into MavLINK and fill out the application on or before the deadline for that Graduation Ceremony. Directions and guidelines on completing this process can be found on the registrar’s webpage.

There is a $35.00 Application for Degree fee payable at the time the application is submitted. There is a $5.00 fee for certificate programs.

A student may graduate in May, August, or December. Students graduating in May and December may only participate in the Commencement ceremony occurring at the end of their graduating semester.

UNO does not have an August commencement ceremony. If graduating in August, you will be given the option to choose whether you would like to walk in the May or December commencement ceremony on your summer application for degree.

A ceremony during which degrees or diplomas are given to students who have graduated from a college.

You do not have to attend Commencement, but UNO strongly encourages it. Commencement is a chance for your family and friends to see you walk across the stage and celebrate your accomplishments.

Diplomas will be mailed out within one month after graduation.

Visit UNO's Commencement website for more information on the upcoming ceremony and how to get your graduation regalia (robes, caps, tassels, etc).

Post-Graduation Questions

UNO has a wonderful Career Services office that can help you learn more about different employment opportunities. Your major department is also a great resource.

Career Services also provides services and tools to help students create and/or refine their résumés.

It might help you advance in your field of choice or provide more in-depth learning.

Students can typically earn a Master’s degree (which is usually a 2-3 year program) or Doctorate degree (which is usually a 4-5 year program).

The admission requirements can vary for different programs, so it would be important to check with that program on what they require for admission.

Visit UNO’S Graduate Studies website for more information on our doctoral and master’s degree programs.
