About Manger

Strengths: Input, Futuristic, Connectedness, Relator, Learner

Manger Baw was born and raised on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. She is a Knyaw (Karen), former refugee and a visionary storyteller. After high school, Manger was given the opportunity to pursue higher education through the Buffett scholarship. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communications with a concentration in leadership and organization and a Sociology minor from the University of Nebraska - Omaha. She is now working on her Masters of Science in Counseling - Student Affairs in Higher Education. Manger has a passion for leadership and youth development. In her free time, she likes to read and watch TED talks.

While in her undergrad, she served as a president for the Karen Student Association at UNO and was an active student leader at Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and Thompson Learning Community. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, she went to Karen State, Burma and taught at one of the schools for two months. She then came back to the States and served one term in the National Service/AmeriCorps program as a College Coach to help students from low-income families to have access to higher education. After her service term, she worked as a life coach in the Exploratory Studies department at UNO and then she became an academic advisor in the Academic and Career Development Center before coming back to TLC as a staff.

Aside from work, she serves as a facilitator for the Karen Educational-Resources, a social media-based youth empowerment and educational advising program. KER mission is to provide educational-based information and promote the importance of all types of education to the Karen audience. Manger enjoys working with students and meeting them where they are at.
