“I am humbled that I was asked to take on this position, to be able to support people who are on their academic journey and engage in a leadership position. It is a big honor for me.” Dr. Jakopovic said.

Dr. Jakopovic has been involved with the NCSM (National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics) for the past 6 years, attending and presenting her research at the annual conference. This academic year, she was appointed as a member of the NCSM board of directors to serve for the next two years

As the Associate Journal Editor, Dr. Jakopovic is responsible for assigning manuscript reviewers and collaborating with the lead editor to make final decisions about submission acceptance. NCSM's vision and mission are focused on disseminating information about effective mathematics teacher leadership, both from the lens of researchers as well as effective practitioners, and as such the journal strives to focus on cultivating a high-quality publication centered on these goals.

While she is excited to start this new path with NCSM, Dr. Jakopovic knows she is also representing UNO and Nebraska in the math education community.

“I’m excited to help bridge that connection for the university and put UNO and Omaha on the map at the national level. No one else is from Nebraska so it’s great for math education.” Dr. Jakopovic said.

Dr. Jakopovic is in her 4th year at UNO teaching graduate and undergraduate level STEM education courses. She also is part of the NebraskaMATH Omaha Noyce (NSF-DUE- #1852908) and COMMIT (NSF-DUE- #1925188) Grants and assists with the Eureka summer camp.
