STEM Teaching Practices Instructor Development Fellowship

The STEM TRAIL Center is pleased to offer professional development funding to full-time, non-tenure track faculty members at UNO. This program will provide up to $1000 in funding per year to individual faculty members to participate in conferences, workshops or training events related to improvement of courses they teach.

Eligibility:
  • Full-time faculty appointment as Assistant Instructor, Instructor, Lecturer or another non-tenure track teaching title
  • Typical 12-credit workload assignment, made up of course instruction and teaching-related activities (e.g, lab coordination), not including overload assignments or thesis/dissertation supervision. Priority will be given to applicants carrying at least 9-credits of instruction.
  • Actively teaches one or more courses in a STEM content area or STEM Education at the time of application.

Limitations and Requirements:

  • Applications for these funds must be made in advance for review by the STEM TRAIL Center, and will not be approved retroactively.
  • Training activities must have direct relevance to the faculty member’s currently assigned or future teaching plans and must aim to foster or deepen pedagogical skills.
  • Direct costs associated with participating in a maximum of one approved professional training event per faculty member per fiscal year may be supported for up to $1000, subject to the availability of program funds. Faculty stipends/salary are not eligible expenses in this program. These funds are subject to standard UNO accounting rules and travel guidelines.
  • These funds may be combined with other sources (e.g., college travel funds, distance education dollars, etc.).
  • Following completion of the training activity, recipients of this funding are expected to participate in a discussion forum as part of the STEM TRAIL Teaching Practices Workshop series at UNO to discuss what they learned with others.

Complete the online application form and route it for signature by your department chair. Applications will be reviewed by the STEM TRAIL Center on a rolling basis.
