Position Announcement: Phelps and McCarthy Named SBDC Center Directors for Omaha, Chadron

Kiley Phelps, MBA, has been named the new SBDC center director for the Metropolitan region. Christopher McCarthy, Ph.D., has been named the SBDC center director for the North Panhandle region.

Omaha, Nebraska – The Nebraska Business Development Center is pleased to announce Christopher McCarthy, Ph.D., has been named NBDC's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) director for the North Panhandle region in Chadron and Kiley Phelps, MBA, has been named the SBDC director for the Metropolitan region in Omaha.

They are part of NBDC’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program which provides a range of no-cost services including business plan development, financial projections, market research, and more.

The Small Business Development Center program is one of five NBDC programs that support Nebraska entrepreneurs in a variety of ways. In 2021, NBDC consultants served more than 1,800 clients, leading to an impact of $524.4 million to the Nebraska economy through job creation, business investments, sales increases, and government contract awards. NBDC is a center of the University of Nebraska at Omaha with offices located across the state.

About Dr. McCarthy:

Dr. McCarthy is an assistant professor of economics & agribusiness at Chadron State College. He has been a consultant to private-sector companies for the past seven years, helping startups, up-starts, and established companies with business planning, financial planning, and early seed funding acquisition.

“I’m excited for this new role with NBDC to support local businesses,” said Dr. McCarthy. “There are so many great opportunities for businesses in this part of the state, and I’m looking forward to partnering with entrepreneurs and business owners to help them grow and succeed.”

About Phelps:

Phelps was previously a business consultant with NBDC and has prior experience in the fields of supply chain management and data analytics. She recently graduated from UNO with her Master of Business Administration. Her promotion to this new role comes after Tony Schultz, former metropolitan center director, was named Nebraska SBDC’s state director.

“I have loved working at NBDC over the past couple of years,” said Phelps. “I am looking forward to serving our clients in this new capacity. It is an honor to be trusted to walk with Nebraska business owners and entrepreneurs on their journey to success.”
