Mission and Values

  1. UNO
  2. Counseling and Psychological Services
  3. About Us

In alignment with the university's mission, CAPS is focused on academic excellence, is student-centered, and supports community engagement. CAPS is dedicated to working with students, faculty, and staff to provide counseling services, outreach, and prevention that can assist our diverse student body related to the challenges that impact their overall well-being.

CAPS Commitment

CAPS is committed to providing a safe and welcoming experience to ALL people who come through our doors. Every person has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. The counseling staff regularly attends trainings and workshops to further competency as it relates to issues of multiculturalism and diversity. In addition, the staff serves on various committees on campus and provides important trainings in order to promote a safe, accepting environment on UNO's campus and in the community.

We recognize that students, faculty, and staff come from intersecting identities that include their racial identity and ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, country of origin, age, socio-economic status, body shape/size, ability, religion/spirituality, and opinion/point of view.

Our staff work to make sure each person we work with feels valued and appreciated for who they are. We also recognize that people who come to see us often struggle with issues related to diversity such as discrimination, acts of bias, feelings of non-acceptance and self-discovery. We will work to make sure each person feels safe and supported.
