CIRA’s Nebraska Immigration Legal Assistance Hotline (NILAH) provides free, confidential legal screenings and referrals for low-income immigrants and refugees across Nebraska.

Eligibility/ Requirements: Immigrant and refugees living in Nebraska. Immigrants who are domestic violence victims take priority.

About: The Center for Legal Immigration Assistance (CLIA) exists to open doors of equal opportunity to immigrants and refugees by providing quality, affordable immigration-related legal services which immigrants have identified as their number one need. Must have an appointment to be seen by an attorney.

Also offers citizenship clinics throughout Nebraska.

Ready in 5 Program (Heartland Family Services)

Eligibility: Refugee families with children 3-6 years of age.

About: Ready in 5 is a program that seeks to prepare preschool age refugee children and their parents for the American school system through in-home groups and center-based site. Staff also assist families to enroll in kindergarten, preschool, and Head Start.

Positive Parenting Group (Heartland Family Services)

Eligibility: Families facing social or economic hardships with children, birth to age 12.

Cost: The class is free and child care is available.

About: is a group for parents and children who want to learn more about developmental stages and needs, appropriate expectations, effective discipline, family roles, cooperation, and independence. This group meets once a week to learn about healthy parenting styles. Parents share tips and experiences and get to know how other families solve the challenges that cause stress in their daily lives. Participants are given handouts with lessons and information to practice at home.

Group Time Frame: 12 weeks

Languages: Classes are offered in English, Spanish, and Karen/Burmese.

Latino Center of the Midlands

Cara y Corazón (Face and Heart) Program

Eligibility/Requirements: Program acceptance is dependent upon completion of program intake paperwork, commitment to maintaining consistent attendance for duration of 16-week program and available program openings. Child care will be provided during the sessions.

About: Cara y Corazón is a family strengthening, leadership development program that helps families build positive and health relationships. When: Thursdays 5:30 - 7 P.M.

Interpretation Services

Global Language Solutions (Interpretation Services)

Through Lutheran Family Services' International Center

Cost: $45 per hour during regular business hours and $55 per hour after 5:00pm and on weekends. Minimum booking time is one hour, with additional time billed in 15 minute increments.

About: Offers interpreters for organizations and individuals for general legal and medical appointments, therapy sessions, application for human care assistance and services, appointments for job interviews and orientations.

Languages Offered: Interpretation is offered in a variety of languages and dialects, focusing on Amharic, Arabic, Burmese, Dari, Dinka, Farsi, French, Karen, Karenni, Kikongo, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Lingala, Luganda, Nepali, Nuer, Pashto, Somali, Spanish and Swahili.

Intensive English Program (ILUNO)

Through the University of Nebraska Omaha's (UNO) International Studies

Requirements: Must submit a copies of your secondary school grad sheets (transcripts, marksheets), passport or National ID, ILUNO Financial Affidavit, and a bank statement showing adequate funds for session. will need a copy of high school transcripts, bank statements, and completion of the school’s financial sheet

Cost: $45 non refundable application fee. See ILUNO Financial Affidavit for estimated expenses for the academic year.

About:Experienced instructors teach reading and vocabulary, grammar and writing, listening, pronunciation, TOEFL preparation, and critical-thinking skills. Instructors are available daily to meet with students to discuss their class work, language skills, and future academic plans.

Applicants pay a $45 application fee and will need a copy of high school transcripts, bank statements, and completion of the school’s financial sheet for the program.

Youth Programs at the Latino Center of the Midlands Include:

Talking Círculos Programs (Latino Center of the Midlands )

Eligibility/Requirements: Program acceptance is dependent upon completion of program intake paperwork, commitment to maintaining consistent attendance for duration of 16-week program and available program openings. Child care will be provided during the sessions.

About: Talking Círculos is a sixteen week comprehensive youth leadership development program for adolescents aged 14-19 based on the nationally recognized Joven Noble curriculum. There are two programs, Xochikalli targeted for young women, and Ollin, targeted for young men. Both programs support and guide youth through their "rites of passage" while focusing on the prevention of substance abuse, teen pregnancy, relationship violence, and school failure.

About: the Latino Center of the Midlands offers a on site, student advocate mentor program for youth who are at risk of disengaging with the education system. This program addresses attendance barriers as a pathway to graduation and future success.

Nebraska Hispanic Latino Youth Summit

Who can go? High school students

About: Helps high school students prepare for life after graduation. Offers guidance and opportunity awareness for finding work or going to college after finishing high school.

Ten leadership scholarships totaling $1,000 each will be awarded at the summit to attendees.
