Multilateral Summer Immersion Experience

Students from UNO's Partner Universities in China, India, Germany, and Norway to Visit Omaha for a Summer Immersion Program Hosted by UNO's College of Information Science & Technology. Thirty five students – five from China, ten from India, 6 from Germany and 14 from Norway will be visiting Omaha from June 17th through the 28th, 2012. The students from China are from UNO's partner university, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) located in the city of Chengdu the capital of the south west province of Sichuan. The students from India are from two different universities – five are from Sir Padampat Singhania University (SPSU) located in the "Venice of the East", the city of Udaipur and five are from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology (JIIT) located in Noida in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The students from Germany are from UNO's sibling university, the Technical University of Braunshweig (TUB) located in the state of Lower Saxony. The students from Norway are from UNO's sibling university, the University of Agder (UiA), located in beautiful Kristiansand, on the southern tip of Norway. The students will be accompanied by three faculty members one from the Sir Padampat Singhania University, one from the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology and one from the University of Agder.

This multilateral immersion experience will expose the visiting students to American society, culture, history and business practices through educational workshops, corporate visits and cultural activities. More than a dozen UNO students will be volunteering to support the event and provide the visiting students an opportunity to interact in formal and informal settings. The visit also includes facility tours and face-to-face conversations with top corporate executives from Borsheims, ConAgra, Gallup, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Union Pacific, and Valmont. The students will also participate in an afternoon of service with Open Door Mission. In addition, the students will take a field trip through Nebraska and South Dakota, visiting attractions such as the Oregon Trail, Scottsbluff National Monument, Fort Robinson, Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, the Black Hills and Badlands National Park.
