Teacher Scholars must be first-time freshmen and enrolled in a UNO College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences teacher preparation program:
- Elementary Education
- Secondary Education
- Special Education
- Early Childhood Inclusive
- Music Education with PK-12 certification
During the selection process, the committee looks for incoming freshmen who have a record of academic excellence, have a passion for teaching, are committed to community engagement, and embody strong leadership characteristics.
We encourage all students interested in teaching careers in the Omaha Public Schools (OPS) to apply to our UNO/OPS Teacher Scholars Academy program. A holistic approach to selection (including grades, student interview responses, and student resumes) will be used to determine invitations to our UNO TSA interview day, May 21, 2022.
The application opens April 8. The deadline to apply is April 29, 2022.
On your application
Your résumé must show a commitment to your community and school through volunteer service and extracurricular activities.
The short answer section requires responses to the following questions.
- What excites you about the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s TSA OPS opportunity?
- What drew you into the education field or becoming a teacher?
- What does it mean to be a teacher?
Acceptance to the UNO/OPS TSA Opportunity requires a commitment to employment by the Omaha Public Schools upon exiting the UNO/OPS TSA program, at a minimum, equal to the number of years in the OPS TSA Opportunity program.
During Interview Day
You will participate in an interview with a UNO and OPS faculty and staff panel.
