Navigating the Magical Journey: The Inspiring Path of Alumni Mia Winter

GAUNO Event Series #1

With a global alumni network of over 20,000+, there is a strong commitment from the UNO College of Business to continue strengthening those connections and community for individuals far after completing their academic studies. Bridging those relations is vital to the continued professional impact that Mavericks not only imprint on our Omaha community, but also globally. The CBA Department of Management’s student org. S.L.A.M. (Students in Leadership & Management) recently played host to a remarkable event, "Grow After UNO" where distinguished alum Mia Winters returned to campus to share her inspiring journey through the twists and turns of post-graduation life, with many UNO graduating seniors, student organization officers, and faculty.

Not all undergraduate paths look the same for students and that’s exactly where Mia says the beginnings of her professional development started, even without her realizing. After switching through different degrees and studies, Mia spoke about finally finding her true passion and identity when she started her program at the UNO College of Business Administration concentrating on marketing & management. This background helped her to instill highly favorable professional power skills such as communication, accountability, and perseverance. Mia used these skills to venture smoothly into the world of business post-graduation at a credit union, where she says if it were not for her BIG DREAM....She would still be working in the Omaha area.

Along with the professional development obtained through her time at UNO, Mia gave credit to the interpersonal characteristics of determination, adaptability, and adventure that all Mavs are instilled with. Fueled by a desire for success and a determination to follow her dreams, Mia made the bold decision to pack her bags and head to Florida, to join the honorable business entity; The Walt Disney Company. Transitioning from the small functioning business world of Omaha to the vast unknown territory of Disney was a challenge that became vital to the steppingstones of her future success. Mia now holds a Senior Facilitator position within the Disney Institute, where she gets to spread financial literacy to her clients and continue using her background to build beneficial relationships.

During her talk at the GAUNO event, Mia emphasized the importance of pursuing one's passion, even if it means taking unconventional paths. She encouraged students to be open to change and to view challenges as opportunities for learning and self-discovery. As CBA continues to shape the future leaders of tomorrow, Mia Winter’s story stands as a testament to the limitless possibilities that unfold when graduates embark on their own unique paths and the intangible resources UNO alumni acquire from their education.
