Mission

The mission of the Department of Economics is the dissemination of economic knowledge through teaching and the creation of economic knowledge through basic and applied research. Teaching provides students with the economic knowledge, skills and values which will enable them to compete successfully in changing metropolitan, national, and global economic environments.

Besides being of value for its own sake, research provides additional economic knowledge for use in teaching and for use by private and public organizations who seek to lead and prosper in increasingly competitive metropolitan, national, and global economies. In addition to teaching and research, the faculty use their expertise to provide service to the community, the University and the economics profession.
