Language for the Professions Series is held once a semester. All students and faculty are welcome.

Although the event highlights the importance and role of bilingualism in these professions the event is held primarily in English. It is organized and sponsored by the Department of World Languages and Literature and the College of Arts and Sciences.

February 15, 2023 | Spanish in Omaha

This event features Oria Simonini, an Omaha-based artist, and Marta Sonia Londoño Mejía, an Omaha-based businesswoman. Oria Simonini is a Latinx artist who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the UNL in December of 2018. Born in French Guiana to Argentine parents, her paintings and murals explore migration and the complex dialogue between the migrant and non-migrant experiences. Marta Sonia Londoño Mejia is a Latinx businesswoman in the Omaha area. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration EAFIT University, in Colombia. She has worked with several business organizations for the advancement of small Latinx business, such as the Centro Latino or the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, etc. She is now leading Midwest Businesses and Projects LLC and is helping Latino businesses in South Omaha.


Nov. 30, 2022 | German & International Diplomacy

Christopher Fuchs is German Deputy Consul General in Chicago where he focuses on science, business, and public affairs. He talked about his experiences as a bilingual working in the field of international diplomacy.


Nov. 3, 2021 | Translation for Subtitling & Voiceover in Film and Television

Quentin Rambaud is a translator, voice-over and subtitler working in the entertainment industry. He recently won the Ataa 2021 prize in the English-language film subtitling category for his work on the film Yesterday. His work includes subtitling for popular Netflix series such as Breaking Bad and True Blood, to name a few.
