  5. Academic Advising

In the College of Arts and Sciences, we believe the student/advisor partnership is vital to success.

If you’re a declared Sociology major with 27 or more hours you’ll need to see a faculty member from the Department of Sociology for advising. (If you're undeclared or have fewer than 27 hours, you'll need to see an Arts & Sciences Advising Center Advisor.)

Our faculty advisors are here not only to help you plan your schedule but also to answer questions about our programs of study, study abroad options, career options, as well as graduate and professional schools.

You may schedule an advising appointment at any point in the year but should note that the heaviest advising time at UNO is typically during the months of October, for the spring semester classes, and March for the fall semester.

To schedule an appointment with your faculty advisor, please use MavCONNECT or contact them via email.

For other appointments or to have a faculty advisor assigned to you, please call 402.554.2626, email unosocanth@unomaha.edu, or stop by 383 Arts and Sciences Hall.

Undergraduate Advisors Email Concentration/Interest
Dr. Kelly MacArthur kmacarthur@unomaha.edu Health & Society
Dr. Beth Ritter britter@unomaha.edu Anthropology
Dr. Jay Irwin jirwin@unomaha.edu Inequality & Social Justice

* If you're minoring in Sociology or Anthropology, you can see any of the above advisors. However, it may be useful to consider the coursework that you'd like to take and choose the advisor who best fits your interests.

Our Advising Model

The College of Arts and Sciences uses a two-adviser model. Our students begin with an advisor in the Arts and Sciences Advising Center, then transition to their major department for advising. Make an appointment with an advisor.
