Scholarship Criteria Amount

Kasher Scholars

  • The Jack Kasher Scholarship Program for Physics at UNO was developed to provide a small, cohort-style learning environment for high-achieving students in physics. The scholarship program provides on-campus room and board, UNO fees, as well as unique mentoring experiences. Based on academic performance and program engagement, the scholarship is renewable for up to four-years.

Dr. George F. Haddix Physics Teacher Scholar

  • The Haddix Physics Teacher Scholar is an undergraduate physics major enrolled in the program's Physics Education concentration and working towards becoming a high school physics teacher.
  • Scholars will work with the Haddix Community Chair of Physical Science on physics education research projects, in-service teacher engagement, and pre-service teacher recruitment.

$4,000/yr.

John G. & Lois H. McMillan Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • This scholarship is for any physics major that graduated from a high school in the Omaha Public School (OPS) district.
  • Applicants will be automatically selected from the pool of admitted students in the Spring.
  • Currently enrolled students should contact the department chair if qualified.

$2,000/yr.

Learning Assistant Fellows

  • Each semester, the Physics Department supports between 6-8 undergraduate learning assistant fellows that work with physics instructors on developing and facilitating introductory labs.
  • Fellows receive training, help develop lab experiences, maintain and organize equipment, and support students during at least one lab section.
$1,200/semester

Jack Kasher Learning Assistant Scholar

  • Each year, one physics major serving as a Learning Assistant Fellow will be awarded a separate scholarship.
  • The Jack Kasher LA Scholar will serve a leadership role in organizing the LA Fellows team.
$1,200/yr.

Isaacson Completion Scholarship

  • Scholarships are provided by the College of Arts and Sciences for students needing assistance completing their last few credits.

Patrick Kerrigan Excellence in Physics Fund

  • Funds are available to support experiential learning opportunities for physics majors. For example: travel for presentation at a scientific conference, registration costs for a conference, materials/equipment/supplies for an interesting senior project, and other student support needs.
