Q&A with the UNO Physics Advisor

Curious what it's really like to be a physics major at UNO? This session with our departmental advisor offers a behind-the-scenes look at life as a UNO physics student. Learn about how to be a successful college student, course pathways, support resources, career options, and what to expect during your first year. Bring your questions!

Research Laboratory Tour

Get an exclusive look inside our cutting-edge research labs! Faculty and current students will guide you through active research areas, showcasing equipment, experiments, and technologies. See how physics is applied to real-world problems—and how undergraduates can get involved in research early in their college career.

Planetarium Show

Join UNO Physics major Joel Jarusek for a live presentation of his original show, “Inside the Magnet- The Physics of MRI” in the newly renovated Mallory Kountz Planetarium. This educational program introduces the science behind Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Covering the physics of protons, magnetic fields, and radiofrequency signals, it explains how MRI machines generate detailed images of the body and brain. Students will learn about the scanner’s main components and how functional MRI can reveal patterns of brain activity. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience science in 360 degrees!

Physics Faculty and Majors Q&A

Meet the professors and students behind the UNO Physics Department! This relaxed Q&A session gives you the chance to ask anything—from preparing for college physics to exploring careers in research and education. All questions welcome!

Interactive Laboratory Activity

Roll up your sleeves and dive into physics! In this hands-on session, you’ll work alongside faculty, students, and lab staff in one of our teaching labs to explore real physics principles through guided activities. No prior experience required—just bring your curiosity.

Physics Jeopardy

Think you know physics? Put your knowledge to the test in this fast-paced game of Physics Jeopardy! Compete with your peers across categories like mechanics, waves, electricity, and astronomy. Prizes may be involved—and bragging rights are guaranteed.

Teacher Session

This educator-only session offers high school teachers the chance to connect directly with UNO Physics faculty, academic advisors, and Dual Enrollment representatives. Topics include curriculum alignment, student research opportunities, lab resources, and ways to build stronger high school–college partnerships.

Undergraduate Research Poster Session

UNO physics majors will present posters highlighting their research projects. This is a great opportunity to learn about ongoing student work and talk one-on-one with undergraduates about their experiences in research, coursework, and life as a physics major.
