About Beth Janssen, Lt Col, USAF

Lieutenant Colonel Beth Janssen is the Commander for AFROTC Detachment 470 at University of Nebraska Omaha. She is currently responsible for overseeing the training, development, and commissioning of the Detachment’s cadets in preparation for future service as U.S. Air Force officers and leaders for the nation.

Lt Col Janssen received an ROTC commission upon graduation from the University of Northern Colorado in 2007. Her background includes operational and Headquarters staff assignments for both the Air Force and Army. Lt Col Janssen's first assignment was to the 26th Operational Weather Squadron at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana where she was responsible for 24/7 meteorological overwatch to Southeast CONUS. After Barksdale, she was assigned to Fort Drum, New York and deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  From there, Lt Col Janssen served at the Pentagon and HQ U.S. Army Corps of Engineers before moving on to complete a tour as the Operations Officer for the 17th Operational Weather Squadron at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. She then held the OIC position as the Staff Weather Officer for the Combined Arms Center Headquarters located at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Prior to her current position, she was Commander, 28th Operational Weather Squadron at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. She led 94 personnel in executing 24/7 weather operations and integrating environmental analysis into intelligence planning operations in support of combat forces operating in the United States Central Command Theater and the Horn of Africa. She was also responsible for training and developing newly apprenticed weather airmen to understand environmental impacts to mission planning and success.
