How to Join AFROTC

The first steps to becoming an Officer in the United States Air Force or Space Force are simple. 

Incoming College Freshmen and Sophomores

Reviewed the Program Overview and ready to start your AFROTC journey?

Step 1. Use the Applicant Guide and sign up for a WINGS account at https://wings.holmcenter.com

Step 2. Enroll in the Aerospace Studies courses through your University or College:

  • University of Nebraska - Omaha: AERO 1310 and AERO 1010
  • Creighton University: AES 131 and AES 001
  • Metropolitan Community College: Enroll as a “Non-Degree Seeking Student” at UNO
  • All Other Schools: Email unoafrotc@unomaha.edu to have us contact your Registrar

Step 3. (Sophomores Only) Email unoafrotc@unomaha.edu to request a permit to enroll in AERO 2310.

Step 4. Complete the Inbound Cadet Guide

High School Seniors

Is Air Force ROTC the right path for you? Want to have a college experience unlike any other and have the opportunity to be part of the world's greatest Air and Space Force? Take the next steps to join:

Step 1. Apply to a school that hosts or has a crosstown agreement with Air Force ROTC (college locator)

Step 2. Optional Apply for the High School Scholarship Program; begin your application the fall of your High School Senior year at https://www.afrotc.com/apply/

Step 3. Once accepted to the University of Nebraska at Omaha or one of our crosstown schools, use the Applicant Guide and create a WINGS account at https://wings.holmcenter.com

Step 4. Enroll in the Aerospace Studies courses through your University or College:

  • University of Nebraska - Omaha: AERO 1310 and AERO 1010
  • Creighton University: AES 131 and AES 001
  • Metropolitan Community College: Enroll as a “Non-Degree Seeking Student” at UNO
  • All Other Schools: Email unoafrotc@unomaha.edu to have us contact your Registrar

Step 5. Complete the Inbound Cadet Guide

Cadets are not required to be on scholarship to join AFROTC. In fact, scholarships are very competitive to earn as an incoming freshman. The HSSP (High School Scholarship Program) application process needs to be started in the fall approximately 11 months before joining the program in the following fall semester.

Eligibility Requirements

  • United States citizen or actively pursuing citizenship which can be obtained by commissioning date
  • Be in good academic standing (2.0+ GPA)
  • In good physical condition
    • You do NOT have to have a passing physical fitness score to qualify, but you must receive medical approval to participate in physical activity.
  • Of good moral character
  • 14 years or older (must be 17 years old to receive a scholarship)
  • Attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha or a crosstown institution
    • University of Nebraska at Omaha
    • Bellevue University
    • Clarkson College
    • College of Saint Mary
    • Creighton University
    • Iowa Western Community College
    • Nebraska Methodist College
    • University of Nebraska Medical Center
    • Metropolitan Community College (must enroll as a non-degree seeking student at UNO)
