Makenzie worked as a field intern at Kiewit this summer, gaining firsthand experience with engineering projects and field operations in a professional construction environment. Previously, as a Scott Scholars Design Studio intern, she partnered with Scholars in STEM to develop and lead engaging STEM activities for local middle school students. Inspired by her experience, Makenzie now serves on the Scholars in STEM executive committee and helps coordinate bi-annual STEM day camps for middle schoolers. She also volunteers with Collective for Hope's HEALS to the Pavement Walk and participates in conservation cleanups through UNO's Conservation Club. Following graduation, Makenzie plans to pursue a master's degree in environmental engineering and hopes to build a career focused on environmental management or hazardous waste rehabilitation.
