The Walter Scott, Jr. Scholarship application has closed for first year students starting classes at UNO in Fall 2023.

All application materials must be received by the final deadline in order to be considered for review. The Fall 2023 application has closed.

Final application deadline: December 31, 2022 | 11:59 P.M.


1. Apply to UNO

Complete the UNO Application for Undergraduate Admission.


2. Obtain Your NUID and Password

The Scott Scholars Application will ask you to input your NUID.

3. Submit the Scott Scholars Application

Please be sure to review the program requirements before completing the application.

To begin, access the online Walter Scott, Jr. Scholarship Application. (Application is closed for 2023 students. The 2024 application will open in September 2023.)

If you are logged in to your Google account, your browser may store your unfinished application for up to 30 days, but it is recommended that you complete the application in one session. To prepare, gather and create the following required application materials before starting the form:

  • Résumé
  • Unofficial or official high school and college transcripts
  • ACT Scores
  • Portrait or headshot
  • Contact information for two recommendations (letters of recommendation not required)
  • Link to a 1-minute video

In your video, you should introduce yourself to your future classmates, tell us about your past experiences, and touch on why the Scott Scholars program is the best place for you to pursue your degree. Videos should adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. No more than 1 minute (60 seconds) in length;
  2. Single take (no editing);
  3. You should speak directly to the camera; and (4) Do not include background music or subtitles.

Students can upload their videos to file sharing sites, like OneDrive, or upload to YouTube.

You will also be asked to answer five essay questions. Be sure to give yourself enough time to construct thoughtful responses.

4. Applicants Invited to Interview

Upon receipt of all application materials, eligible applicants will be invited to attend a Scott Scholars Applicant Day and interview with the Scott Scholars Admissions Committee in January 2023.
