Leadership You

Learning to Lead, Design, and, Most Importantly, Matter

All first-year Scott Scholars were required to participate in a three-credit Leadership Development course instructed by Harnoor Dhaliwal, Ph.D., Associate Executive Director. The primary objective of this course was to equip students with the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to become successful and responsible leaders in their chosen professions and communities. Through the course, students were introduced to essential leadership theories and encouraged to delve into personal and social competencies associated with effective collaboration and leadership.

Next-Gen Software Development

Technical Literacy Course

All first-year Scott Scholars enroll in a three-credit software development course designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of software development. Students worked in teams to identify a need with their partnering community organization and designed and created an app that addressed that need.

This course introduces students to the basic concepts of programming languages. Students were also provided instruction in user interface design tools and constraints and considerations applicable to app development. The course was developed to emphasize student-driven design and implementation of apps, while working cooperatively in teams.
