Uyen Phan

This summer, Uyen was accepted to the Nebraska Institutional Development Award Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (NE-INBRE) program, where she spent ten weeks conducting research with Dr. Sakthivel Muniyan, studying the molecular pathways of an aggressive phenotype of prostate cancer. Previously, Uyen participated in UNMC's Summer Health Professionals Education (SHPEP) Program, was an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Guisbert's lab, and worked as a CNA on the oncology progressive care unit at Nebraska Medicine. At UNO, Uyen serves as vice president of the Vietnamese Student Organization and is a member of the Scott Scholars Leadership Council's Recruitment and Outreach Committee and the Scholars in STEM executive committee. In addition, she is heavily involved in the wider community as a volunteer at International Council for Refugees and Immigrants and in UNMC's pediatric unit, as well as a mentor at Learning for All. Through her diverse learning experiences, Uyen is deeply committed to serving underrepresented communities and plans to become a physician and specialize in pediatric oncology.
