Joel Miller

Joel continued his work with Global Friends this past summer, a local ministry that supports international exchange students. As a team lead, he helped launch a new branch of the nonprofit in Estes Park, CO, which welcomes over 500 J-1 visa holders each summer. In the fall of 2025, Joel spent the semester in the Phillipines as an environmental intern with Reefs for Life. As a scuba-certified diver with over 40 logged dives, Joel removed harmful coral eaters that have no predators due to over-hunting, propagated new corals, and performed other reef maintenance tasks all around the Caramoan peninsula. He also has experience as a plant health care technician with Arbor Aesthetics Tree Care, protecting rees from invasive pests, and is skilled in wetland delineation. At UNO, Joel is involved in Pep Band, plays in the String Orchestra, and serves as a student leader at Providence Church. Following graduation, Joel plans to pursue a career in marine conservation and restoration.
