Additional Information

Joel is currently stationed in the Phillipines, where he works as an environmental intern with Reefs for Life. As a scuba-certified diver with over 40 logged dives, Joel removes harmful coral eaters that have no predators due to over-hunting, propagates new corals, and performs other reef maintenance tasks all around the Caramoan peninsula. This past summer, he worked as a plant health care technician with Arbor Aesthetics, where he applied chemical treatments to trees to protect them from invasive pests, particularly ash trees which are in significant danger from the foreign emerald ash borer beetle. Since May of 2024, Joel has also worked as a volunteer coordinator with Global Friends, a ministry focused on helping international students feel at home during their time here in the US. For his Community Action Project, Joel and his team are partnered with Completely KIDS, focusing on enhancing the sustainability of the weekend food program’s waste management by partnering with the Hefty ReNew Program. At UNO, Joel is involved in the Pep Band, plays in the String Orchestra, and serves as a student leader at Providence Church. Following graduation, Joel is passionate about pursuing a career in marine conservation and restoration.
