Under ordinary circumstances, the timeline for a new hire to reach tenure and promotion to associate professor is as follows:

A number of factors may affect the timeline. A tenure candidate might bring in one or two years of service from a previous institution--speeding up the process--or might apply for an extension to the timeline for disability leave.
