This award recognizes an outstanding CAS staff member on an annual basis. The award is given in honor of the late Janine Brooks who served as a staff associate in the UNO Department of Chemistry.

Call for Nominations

Purpose of the Award

The purpose of this award is to provide recognition to an outstanding CAS staff member on an annual basis. This award is given in honor of the late Janine Brooks who served as a staff associate in the UNO Department of Chemistry.

Selection Criteria

CAS staff will be recognized for their outstanding performance based on one or more of the following criteria:

  • Leadership/Mentoring: Takes a leadership/mentoring role by assisting students with life situations and career path advising; assists new faculty and staff with work processes; and leads with enthusiasm and energy.
  • Process Improvement: Develops/improves/problem-solves work method(s) that reduce waste, stretch resources and/or increase efficiency.
  • Exceptional Customer Service: Willingness to find solutions to issues/problems presented by UNO stakeholders (students, staff, faculty, the UNO community, and the public) through exceptional customer service and follow-through to ensure issues/problems have been addressed and/or resolved.
  • Self-Improvement: Displays willingness to tackle unfamiliar tasks, projects or new systems by participating in course study, continuing education or other university training activities to improve one’s skills in these areas.
  • Extra Duties: Performing extra duties beyond those normally assigned through external committees; special projects; covering co-workers posts or assisting other departments/units when they are short-handed or working on special projects.

Eligibility

Full-time staff in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) who are office/service or managerial/professional employees are eligible for this award. Dean’s office senior leadership is excluded.

Award

The award will be given annually, and the recipient will be recognized at the end of the spring semester. Winners will receive a $500 stipend along with the recognition.

Nominations

Please submit your letter of nomination to the CAS Staff Advisory Committee (SAC) President, Marie Lee, mglee@unomaha.edu. Winners will be chosen by the CAS SAC Executive Committee.
