Additional Information

Education:

2024: Ph.D. in Biology, Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL, USA
2019: B.S. In Biology, Concordia University, Nebraska, Seward, NE, USA

Teaching Fields:

Ecology
Mammalogy
Ornithology
Science Communication
General Biology

Research Interests:

I operate a research lab with two main areas of focus: improving science education for undergraduates and understanding the impacts of land management on communities in tallgrass prairies.

My education research interests include improving general education biology courses for non-majors by incorporating socioscientific issues and fostering real-world connections, as well as improving undergraduate science communication education. I used mixed-methods research approaches incorporating quantitative survey data and qualitative data from interviews to understand the impacts of educational practices on student outcomes.

My tallgrass prairie ecology work centers on small mammals like mice and voles. I am interested in understanding how different management practices like prescribed fire, reintroduction of grazing herbivores, and weed control through mowing or spraying impacts these small mammals, both directly and indirectly. I have a major interest in community and landscape ecology and understanding how the prairie is shaped by the complex interactions that make up prairie systems.
