Daniel is from Stromsburg, NE and is studying bioinformatics. His leadership experience includes serving on the Scott Scholars Leadership Council and submitting a proposal on the redesign of the Scott Scholars Mentor Program. This new program would better leverage peer to peer learning by fostering inner class professional relationships. Additionally, he volunteered for Omaha By Design, where he helped create surveys to accurately gauge the public's perception of potential Aksarben area projects. His research experience includes working in a microbiology lab at UNO to develop a pipeline for automating the annotation of unknown bacteriophage genomes. This new pipeline utilizes the power of the Holland Computing Center to rapidly compare new genetic sequences to a known library, which reduces research time from days to just hours. His career interests include data analytics and biological research. He hopes to use the power of deep learning to help classify the overall bacteriophage genome.
