Web content you create or edit does not automatically change on the live website.

Publishing

Only CMS Approvers have the ability to publish a page to the live site. Each unit should have at least one (ideally two) approver. This ensures content is reviewed for accuracy and typos prior to it being available to the public.

How to Publish a Single Page

  • Navigate to the Page
  • Click the Publish icon in the right corner of the top toolbar:

  • Click the blue Publish button on the pop-up window:

Publishing Several Pages at One Time

  • Navigate to the folder in which the pages are located
  • Hover over the folder
  • Click the arrow that appears to the right of the folder

In the right-hand pane, all of the pages within that folder will appear

Tick the boxes next to the pages you want to publish:

How to Publish a Full Website

If many edits are being made on a website across many pages, it may be easier to publish the entire website.

  • Navigate to the website Folder
  • Hover over the Folder so the arrow to the right appears
  • Click the arrow
  • Click the Publish icon in the right corner of the top toolbar:

Unpublishing a Page

  • Right-click on the page in the left-hand pane
  • Click Unpublish
  • Click Submit

Keep in mind that once you unpublish a webpage, a "404 Page Not Found" will replace it. The unpublished page will work its way out of the Search in a week or so.

Unpublishing vs. Deleting Content - Which is best?

Cascade CMS pushes web content (files, pages, and folders) to your public-facing webserver. Beyond this, it boils down to what you want to do with your content.

If you want to temporarily pull your content off your server (maybe for maintenance or time-sensitive reasons) with the possibility of adding it back later, you'll want to unpublish your content.

On the other hand, if you want to remove content from Cascade CMS altogether, use the delete function.

Deleting content will unpublish it (with an option to confirm if previously published) and move it to the Trash bin, where it will remain for an administrator-designated amount of time before being purged from the CMS.

Deleted content can be recalled from the Trash as long as the user has access to see it and as long as it has not been purged.
