Campus Support for Chairs and Directors
The college dean’s offices provide a great deal of information and guidance to chairs and directors. UNO also offers the following campus-wide support structures to assist chairs and directors in their duties and to promote networking among unit-level academic leaders.
Chairs and Directors Meetings – These monthly meetings are organized by Faculty Affairs and provide an opportunity for chairs and directors to learn about campus-wide policies, practices, and initiatives. The meetings often provide opportunities for chairs and directors to ask questions and raise topics of interest with administrators. Contact Dr. Candice Batton for additional information.
Chairs and Directors Professional Development (CDPD) – An advisory board consisting of representatives from each college works with the Center for Faculty Excellence to plan and deliver monthly sessions that help chairs and directors share best practices and further develop their management and leadership skills. The CDPD schedule and resources can be found on the Canvas page for Chairs and Directors. Contact Dr. Connie Schaffer for additional information or to request access to the Canvas site.
Chairs and Directors Faculty Leadership Forum – This voluntary group is led by a current chair or director. Membership and topics are determined by participating members. Participants are eligible to earn a professional development stipend. The leadership of the group rotates each year. Interested parties can contact Dr. Connie Schaffer who will be able to connect them to the person who is currently leading the group.
Faculty and Staff Training (FAST) – Human Resources and the Center for Faculty Excellence partner to provide multiple training sessions many of which are pertinent to those in supervisory or leadership roles. FAST offerings are available through the Center for Faculty Excellence’s calendar (type FAST in the search bar).
Search Resources
The search process is central to recruiting a diverse faculty body and fostering an inclusive environment for faculty, students, and staff. Anybody serving on a faculty search committee is required to have attended a Faculty Search Training in the last two years.
If a committee member has completed the foundations course they are eligible to attend the advanced course to maintain their eligibility to serve on a search committee. If a committee member has not attended a foundations course, they are not eligible to attend the advanced course.
For questions, please email the Center for Faculty Excellence.
