Biography

Dr. Santos holds a B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) from DeVry Institute of Technology [now DeVry University] (1998), a B.Sc. (double-major) in Computer Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL, 2012), and obtained his Ph.D. also from UNL with specialization in Computer Engineering (2020) conducting research under the direction of Dr. Hamid Sharif as part of the Advanced Telecommunications Engineering Lab (TEL). During his academic residency at UNL, he has taught courses ranging from Microprocessor & Embedded Systems, Systems-focused C programming, Assembly Language, PCB Design, and Mobile Robotics.Dr. Santos was also the lead software architect for the "CEENBoT-API", a C-programming library for UNL's highly-successful CEENBoT Mobile Robotics Platform v2.21, successfully deployed in the K-12 space as an outreach tool in STEM fields (2011-2020). Dr. Santos also has practical ‘Silicon Valley’ engineering experience, having worked as a Test Engineer for the Mixed-Signal Group at Linear Technology Corporation (now Analog Devices).Today, Dr. Santos is a Lecturer of upper-level CS courses at the College of Information Science & Technology (IS&T) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and teaches systems-based courses which include C programming, Digital Design and Computer Organization, Communication Networks, Operating Systems, and Computer Architectures.

Computer Architectures, Digital Systems, Operating Systems, Systems-oriented Languages (C, C++, Assembly), Computer Networks.

Research Interests

Biomedical Signal Compression, IoT, Feature-preserving Compression, Machine Learning, GPU Computing, Image and Signal Processing
