In order to provide fair and equitable services to students, alumni, and employers, UNO Career Services adheres to the Principles of Professional Practice outlined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the laws and regulations established by the U.S. Department of Labor, the guidelines provided by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and all applicable federal and state laws.
UNO Career Services does not and will not knowingly assist or provide support to employers who discriminate in their selection of employees on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, and/or political affiliation.

Paid and Unpaid Internships
UNO prioritizes paid internships in alignment with NACE guidance.
Nonprofit and public-sector organizations may post unpaid internships on Handshake only if they meet the FLSA “primary beneficiary test” for unpaid experiences. Because most unpaid internships do not meet this standard, UNO strongly encourages organizations to provide paid opportunities whenever possible.
Third Party Recruiters
Third-party recruiters are agencies, organizations, or individuals recruiting candidates for employment opportunities on behalf of another employer. Third-party recruiters are expected to follow all UNO Career Services policies and procedures established for direct employers.
Career Services will provide assistance to third-party agencies only when the following conditions are met:
-
The third-party recruiter resides in Nebraska or Council Bluffs, Iowa.
-
A complete job description is provided, clearly indicating that the posting is from a third-party recruiter.
-
The identity of the employer being represented is disclosed in the job description. If the employer’s identity is confidential, it must still be disclosed to Career Services staff for verification.
-
The recruiter only recruits candidates for employer clients they directly represent.
-
No fees are charged to candidates.
-
The recruiter and their employer clients agree not to share UNO students’ resumes or candidate information with any other party without the student’s written consent.
