Consent

Consent is permission for something to happen or an agreement to do something. Consent within a sexual relationship is an agreement to participate in a sexual activity. Sexual activity without consent is sexual assault.

Consent...

  • Is freely given without manipulation or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Can be withdrawn at any time.
  • Should be enthusiastic.
  • Consent after coercion is not consent.
  • Check in with your partner often and check for cues from your partner.
  • It is helpful to discuss sexual activity beforehand.

Consent sounds like...

  • Yes, I like that.
  • That feels good.
  • Keep going.
  • I want you to [fill in the blank].

Consent does not sound like...

  • I'm not sure.
  • I don't know.
  • I don't want to.
  • Stop.
  • No.
