About Soraya Rahmanzai

Soraya Rahmanzai has been affiliated with the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) in different capacities over the years. She earned her Bachelor of Science in education and Master of Science in counseling from UNO. 

Soraya currently serves as the Administrative Coordinator for the Center for Afghanistan and Regional Studies. In this role, she manages partnerships between UNO and Afghan universities by overseeing administrative duties, technical support, and record-keeping services related to the projects/ activities, as well as faculty support services to the UNO faculty members involved in the Center for Afghanistan and Regional Studies partnerships.

Prior to that Soraya worked for many years as an Academic Advisor for the College of Business Administration (CBA) at UNO. She has worked with a diverse population of students, provided academic advice, served on a variety of committees in CBA, and planned and organized information for scholarship and honor committees. She has performed a variety of tasks such as degree audits and planning, preparing scholarship information, and conveying information via email and messages for current students in CBA. She has also planned and mapped out career paths for students, looked over résumés, and helped find internships available.

She then moved to Ameritas Financial Services and worked as a Recruiting Coordinator, employing creative sourcing to include: direct recruiting, self-driven research, prospecting and referral sourcing into target companies, job boards, associations, targeted email campaigns, and social networking both internally and externally. Full-cycle recruiting: sourcing/candidate generation, cold calling, marketing, research, interviewing, assessments, presentation, negotiation, and closing. Conducting and scheduling appointments weekly for vice presidents. Sending biweekly emails to targeted recruiting markets. Meeting with centers of influence. Updating social media outlets. Going to career fairs. 

Soraya has extensive experience in working in higher education, advising, recruiting, sales, and managing different projects and activities. 

She is an active board member of the Afghan Islamic Cultural Center of Omaha. 

She volunteers and assists the new refugees that have arrived in Omaha. 

She is bilingual in English and Dari.
