Social Work Field Practicum Experience for Supervisors and Agencies

  5. Social Work Field Practicum Experience for Supervisors and Agencies
Supervisors play a critical role in shaping our students’ field practicum experiences, and ensure they develop the skills and knowledge necessary for professional practice. There are two types of field practicum supervisors:
  • Educational Supervisors
    • Must hold an MSW degree from an accredited program and have at least two years of post-degree social work experience to supervise BSSW students.
    • Must have LCSW credentials (e.g., CMSW + LMHP) to supervise MSW students.
  • Task Supervisors
    • Can be from any discipline but must have expertise in the daily tasks and responsibilities of the practicum position.

Steps to Becoming a Field Practicum Supervisor

  1. Complete the supervisor application form and submit it to Konnie Kirchner at (kkirchner@unomaha.edu)

  2. Watch the supervisor training modules in the order listed.

The field practicum office provides evaluation and supervision resources to support your role. The field practicum experience is an important journey in a student’s educational experience and supervision is a key component. These asynchronous trainings provide experienced and novice supervisors valuable insight and tips for skill-building and successful student supervision.

Effective supervision is essential to a student’s learning and professional development. The following asynchronous trainings offer practical insights and skill-building strategies for both novice and experienced supervisors:
