General Information

Biography

Lisa Smith earned her PhD and MSSW from the University of Louisville, Kent School of Social Work. Dr. Smith's research interests include oncology social work practice, healthcare policy and health inequities; Social Determinants of Health; patient-centered care and patient-physician decision making.

Teaching Interests

Currently Dr. Smith teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate level coursework including: Civic Engagement, Generalist Practice 2, Health and Mental Health Policy, Medical Social Work, and Writing for Social Work. In the past, Dr. Smith has taught courses in Research Methods, Policy, Human Behavior, and Psycho-social Oncology Social Work.

Service Summary

Dr. Smith is the Student Social Work Organization (SSWO) Faculty Advisor. She is a new member of the Interprofessional Academy of Educators at UNMC and a faculty affiliate for UNO Medical Humanities, and STEPS programs. Dr. Smith volunteers as a Board of Director member with NAMI-Syracuse working on their Grant committee and Volunteer Retention. In the past, Dr Smith has volunteered for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network in Nebraska and New York, and the Nebraska Cancer Coalition.
