Biography
Dr. Frances Anderson is an Assistant Professor of STEM Education with a specialization in secondary mathematics education. She is a member of the Mathematics Teacher Education Partnership (MTEP) Leadership Academy and the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) National BIPOC Mentorship Program. Previously, she served on the leadership team for the Omaha NOYCE Math Scholarship Program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.Dr. Anderson’s research centers on the conceptualization and operationalization of mathematics capital in mathematics education. Her work examines the relationships among mathematics capital, mathematics outcomes, and educational experiences. She also studies mathematics teacher preparation, teacher development, and professional learning, with particular attention to issues of teacher attraction, attrition, and retention, as well as outcomes for historically marginalized students.Her teaching and professional development focus on pre-service and in-service teacher learning across content areas, including effective instructional practices, differentiation, lesson design, and Universal Design for Learning.Prior to entering higher education, Dr. Anderson taught secondary mathematics in an urban high school setting.

Provides extensive mentorship and supervision for preservice teachers through practicum placements, coordinating with instructional coaches, mentor teachers, and school leaders across multiple semesters.Engages in national and community-facing professional service through invited presentations, partnerships, and dissemination of research to broad audiences, including educators and the public.
