The Athletic Training Research Agenda emphasizes the need to improve retention of athletic trainers. One commonly cited reason for athletic trainers leaving the profession is the prevalence of low salaries. The purpose of this lecture is to present the experiences and expectations of employers during negotiations that take place through the hiring process. The types of data that employers use to determine salary amounts will be discussed. Strategies for data-driven negotiation practices will be provided to increase athletic trainer retention in the profession.
