For Students Interested in Becoming Dentists
Dental schools require a bachelor degree upon admission, though it does not need to be in a major in any particular science, but it is recommended. Students are encouraged to choose a major of interest and follow the requirements for that major while completing the necessary pre-dental courses.
UNMC’s College of Dentistry in Lincoln requires pre-dental students have a minimum of 90 credit hours before applying to dental school, although preference is usually given to students who have received a bachelor’s degree.
Creighton University’s Dental program requires a minimum of 64 credit hours before entering the program and preference is given to Creighton students.
- The DAT is required.
- To be competitive, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is needed.
- No grade below “C” will be accepted.
- Neither UNMC, nor Creighton’s College of Dentistry will accept courses taken for Advanced Placement or CLEP.
