For Students Interested in Becoming Clinical Perfusionists
A perfusionist operates the life-sustaining equipment that keeps patients alive during surgical procedures. This is a highly specialized healthcare profession, requiring a bachelor’s degree with concentrations in biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology.
Pre-clinical perfusion students must also complete required courses in biological sciences, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. It is also recommended that courses beyond the required minimums be taken in chemistry, biology and mathematics.
The GRE is required before applying to the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Master’s of Science in Clinical Perfusion program, and no grade below “C” will be accepted. Preference is given to students with a minimum cumulative GPA and science/math GPA of 3.0. UNMC accepts only 10 students annually to its program.
It is strongly recommended that additional courses in chemistry, biology, and mathematics, beyond the required minimums be taken, prior to application.
