Free or Fee
Certain health care services are at no cost to students who pay the University Program and Facilities Fee (UPFF). UPF Fees do not cover all possible charges at Nebraska Medicine UNO Health Center.
Students who take at least one on-campus course during the academic year pay the University Program and Facilities Fee as part of their tuition package. These students can receive certain UNO Health Center services for no additional charge.

Extra Costs
Patients are financially responsible for charges not covered by the UPPF. If you aren’t certain whether your visit will be covered, contact Nebraska Medicine Patient Financial Customer Services at 1.866.662.8662 or visit the UNO Health Center billing and insurance office Fridays from 9 A.M. - 3 P.M.
Most students are required to pay the UPFF for the UNO Health Center. Those who are not required to pay the fee will either be charged the fee at the time of your first visit or will be charged fee-for-service for the care you receive.
In most cases, the health center fee is less than the fee-for-service, which is why we recommend all students seeking care pay the health center fee.
Insurance
Insurance helps pay costs not covered by the health center fee. Nebraska Medicine participates with many insurance companies. View the complete list of insurance companies.
Bring your insurance card (or a copy/picture of the front and back sides of the policyholder’s card) with you to every health center appointment.
Before you visit, check with your insurance company to ensure Nebraska Medicine is in-network with your plan. If you have questions about whether a particular charge will be covered by your insurance, contact your insurance company directly at their toll-free number, which is usually located on your insurance card.
Your insurance company can tell you:
- What services are covered under your plan
- If a provider is in-network with your insurance
- If preauthorization or a referral is required for charges to be covered
- If you have a deductible and what you’ll pay after your deductible has been met
- How much your co-insurance or co-payment will be
If you’re looking for an insurance plan, consider the university’s student insurance option.
What if I Don't Have Insurance?
Health insurance is not required to be treated at the UNO Health Center. Students who choose not to submit to insurance or do not have insurance can receive a self-pay discount.
Financial assistance is available through Nebraska Medicine. If you are interested in applying for financial assistance, we recommend doing so at least 30 days prior to the date you use health center services as it takes time to complete the process.
Only students, not parents, can complete the financial assistance process. For more information and to begin applying, visit the Nebraska Medicine website.
