Luis Maldonado was appointed vice president for government relations and policy analysis at the American Association of Colleges and Universities in 2019. He aids the president of AASCU in this position by directing and coordinating activities that advance the association's mission, serving as the direct liaison with government officials, federal agencies, and other stakeholders to develop policies and positions that support regional public universities.
Mr. Maldonado has over 30 years of combined experience in government relations and advocacy efforts with various organizations in Washington, D.C. He has worked in advocacy for multiple organizations, including three non-profit organizations, most recently heading the Washington, DC office of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, and senior advocacy positions with the Council on Foundations and the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Maldonado has a master’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland at College Park.
