Expanding the Pipeline: Vertical Research at Scale
Objective/Purpose
This workforce development project is developing a project-based research course at UCF, a Department of Education-designated Hispanic-Serving Institution. The course applies big data and machine learning techniques to problems related to suspicious activity reporting (SAR) and fanaticism. In Year 2, the team is building on their Year 1 efforts and transitioning the course developed at UCF to a web-based platform available for other academic institutions, the HSE, and the public-at-large.
Methodology
This team will continue to offer a vertically integrated course in which Ph.D. candidates and faculty guide undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. students in applying big data analytics to solve a research problem. Additionally, they will develop learning modules in preparation of offering the course online.
