National Student Employment Week
National Student Employment Week (NSEW) is a week of recognition and celebration for all the hard work student employees and their supervisors do. NSEW occurs during the second full week of April annually. The purpose of the week is to:
- Appreciate and recognize our current student employees and their contributions to the UNO community
- Thank on-campus employers for their part in supporting students in these critical roles for the university
- Build awareness of student employment opportunities and the importance they play on our campus

Maverick Student Employment Awards
Each year, during National Student Employment Week, there are several awards that are rewarded to recognize the accomplishments and contributions that student employees, supervisors, and their teams have on our campus.
2024-2025 Nomination Due Date: Friday, February 7th, 2025 at 5 P.M.
To nominate, below are the descriptions of each award and the form that you will use to submit your nomination.
Nomination Criteria
Nomination criteria are outlined in each nomination form below. The Undergraduate and Graduate Student Employee of the Year as well as Student Employee Team of the Year will be reviewed on their contributions to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Competencies for Career Readiness as well as overall commitment to their employment opportunities.
Before starting your nomination, please review the NACE Competencies.
Undergraduate Student Employee of the Year
This award is to recognize an undergraduate student employee’s (Student Worker or Work Study) outstanding contributions and achievements in their position while pursuing their higher education. To be eligible, nominees must currently be employed on campus. Individuals are not able to win this award in consecutive years.
Graduate Student Employee of the Year
This award is to recognize a graduate student employee’s (Graduate Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Graduate Student Worker, or Student Worker) outstanding contributions and achievements in their position while pursuing their graduate education. To be eligible, nominees must currently be employed on campus and must have student employee status. Full or part time faculty or staff who are also pursuing their graduate studies are not eligible. Individuals are not able to win this award in consecutive years.
Student Employee Supervisor of the Year
This award is to celebrate the accomplishments of those that work directly with student employees in a supervisory role. To be eligible, nominees must currently be a faculty or staff member employed on campus and supervise undergraduate or graduate students as part of their role. Individuals are not able to win this award in consecutive years.
Student Employee Team of the Year
This award is to recognize the outstanding accomplishments that our student employment teams have on our campus. Understanding that we have many employees who work together on a team, it is the hope that this award can recognize a group of student employees who as a collective, had a significant impact on our campus. To be eligible, the team of student employees must consist of at least two individuals who are currently employed on campus. Teams are not able to win this award in consecutive years.
MSE Awards Selection Process
Nominations will be reviewed and voted on by the Maverick Student Employment Steering Committee (MSESC). The MSESC brings together members of the UNO community who work with the student employment experience or supervise student employees.
Winners of each award will be presented their award during National Student Employment Week. Please note that the information provided in the nomination process may be shared during the presentation of the awards or through press releases and other promotional opportunities.
