Get involved

Taking an introductory course in a subject area that interests you can be a good way to see if you connect with course content.

Most intro courses count as general education courses, too!

Talk to an academic advisor for more information.

Attending events to explore majors and careers allows you to meet professors, advisors, and students from areas you want to explore.

Major Exploration Week
Degree Discovery Day

Getting hands-on experience in a field is a great way to increase your skillset. Part-time, full-time, on campus, off campus – you have many choices.

If you need help searching, schedule a career appointment in Handshake!

Joining a student organization can be a great way to connect with other UNO students who have the same interests, values, and skills that you do.

Volunteer

Talk to a Pro

Use Social Media

Use UNO Faculty/Staff

Volunteering not only helps you learn about yourself and your community but also helps develop very marketable skills.

The Office of Engagement can empower you to get started.

Talk with someone who is already working in the field.

You can conduct an informational interview, shadow them at work— it’s a great way to start networking!

Most departments have a Facebook or Instagram profile. You can also start following general pages on social media based on your interests.

Using LinkedIn is another great way to get connected!

Connecting with professors or advisors is a great way to learn more about options within various programs.

Search by department in the UNO Directory or search for advisors.
