  • Auditions are required of all students in the Theatre General Major, Acting/Directing concentration, and in the Musical Theatre concentration.
  • Open to any UNO students as well as Omaha community members.
  • Theatre students who would like to be considered for both productions, prepare 1 monologue and 1 song (see below for more info).
  • For non-majors/community members, sides will be available for the monologues.

Audition requirements:

Silent Sky

  • Theatre majors auditioning for Silent Sky only: Please prepare a pair of contrasting monologues that capture a character in the production.
    • Sides will be available for non-majors/ community members.

Jesus Christ Superstar

  • Please prepare a 60–90 second cut of a pop or rock song that fits the style of the show. This selection may be from a musical or a non-musical source. Choose a cut that tells a complete story—typically, a verse and chorusor a bridge to the end works well. If you'd like to adjust the key or explore a gender-bent version, sites like musicnotes.com offer flexible options in multiple keys. The score of Jesus Christ Superstar is firmly rooted in 1970s rock with influences from funk, gospel, and soul.
  • If only auditioning for JCS, you may also prepare a 2nd contrasting song.
  • We are open to gender-flexible casting. If there is a specific character you're interested in, find a song reminiscent of the type of music they sing in the show in terms of style, range, and overall energy.
  • Bring printed sheet music OR a backing track.

UNOTheatre Student Attendance Policy

Students cast in productions are expected to prioritize their coursework and class preparation. Missing theatre classes or failing to engage may negatively impact grades, particularly in Practicum courses.

Success in productions is enhanced by the knowledge and skills gained in the classroom, making attendance in both arenas essential.

Beginning Fall 2025, students must maintain a minimum semester GPA of 2.0 to be eligible for acting roles or advanced technical Practicum assignments.

Looking forward to seeing you there and Break Legs!
