Additional Information

Background

Dr. Pamela D Bennett graduated with a master's in American Indian Studies and a doctorate in history from the University of Arizona in Tucson.

She has taught at Indigenous Studies and History at Tohono O'odham Community College, University of Arizona, University of Southern California, and served as Academic Dean at Little Priest Tribal College.

For the past five years she has taught Native Studies courses at Creighton University and is excited to join the Native Studies program at UNO.

Of Cherokee descent, Dr. Bennett was an active participant in the Native community in Tucson at the Tucson Indian Center in the Wellness Department, served as a founding board member of the Southwest Gourd Society and sang with Panther Creek, a Southern Drum.

Prior to Covid-19 she was actively engaged with the local Native community and regularly attended ceremonies with her tiospaye 'family.' Her research speciality centers on the experiences of Native female veterans, especially those of the WWII era.

Currently, she is working on a book proposal of the same. In her spare time she enjoys reading, beading, making medicine bags, and playing with her three dogs, Wren, Lark, and Savvy.
