The Professional Development Committee of UNO's Staff Advisory Council supports staff growth through equitable access to learning, mentorship, and leadership opportunities. By funding and promoting skill-building initiatives, the committee fosters a culture of continuous development and career advancement.

Mission

Our mission is to empower and elevate staff at the University of Nebraska at Omaha by offering funds to support comprehensive professional development initiatives. This committee aims to create and promote a culture of continuous learning and growth, offer opportunities to enhance individual skill sets, promote career advancement, and cultivate a cohesive and resilient community within our staff representation.

Objectives

Through collaborative efforts, innovative programming, and tailored resources, we strive to inspire excellence, foster leadership, and champion the diverse talents and aspirations of our staff.

Long-term Goals

  1. Expand Offerings: Increase funding in SAC Professional Development Cost Center year over to year.
    1. Develop a sustainable and scalable model for delivering professional development programs and resources, ensuring continuity and adaptability to evolving organizational needs and priorities over the long term.
  2. Mentorship Program: Establish a formal mentorship program that pairs experienced staff members with new colleagues who hold similar job descriptions.
  3. Leadership Development: Launch internal and external initiatives specifically focused on nurturing leadership skills among staff members at all levels.
    1. Cultivate partnerships with internal departments and external campus partners to enrich professional development offerings, access specialized expertise, and broaden staff members' networks and opportunities for growth.
      1. i.e. Clifton Strengths Coaching, Lunch & Learns
      2. i.e. Support HR (Human Resources) FAST Program with topic ideas and promotion, promote BestCare EAP program to staff

Yearly Expectations

  • Identify SMART Goals for upcoming council year to support long-term goals.
  • Identify tasks and set timelines for accomplishing council year goals.
  • Review submission rubric for continued enhancement.
  • Review webpage for submission, process, and communication improvements.
  • Review yearly asks vs. awarded funds vs. claimed funds and make a case for increased funds, if necessary.
