Cheating and Interference

  3. Cheating and Interference

Cheating

  1. A team who cheats during an event will be penalized with either a Tier 2 ranking or a disqualification for the event. The event supervisor will make this determination.
  2. If cheating occurs by a team in more than one event or successive years, the entire team will be disqualified for that year, and possibly the following year, from participating in the Nebraska Science Olympiad.
  3. If an event team, team member, or anyone associated with the team deliberately takes an action that impairs the ability of other teams to compete fairly, that team will be disqualified from the tournament. In addition, the event team member(s) involved in the incident may be ineligible for any future Nebraska Science Olympiad competitions.

Interference

Interference occurs when students, coaches, teachers, chaperones, parents, or any other person associated with a team assists, hinders, obstructs, or gives outside help to competitors during an event. The following are examples of interference:

  1. Entering an area where events are set up for the competition or are being held without proper authorization to do so.
  2. Giving any verbal or non-verbal “coaching” or outside assistance to a participant competing during an event.
  3. Disrupting the event leader or flow of an event.
  4. Providing resources, tools, or help to a competitor during an event without prior authorization.

Note: This policy applies to any person attending an Nebraka Science Olympiad tournament.

'Intererence' is considered 'cheating' and the event supervisor will determine how to apply the rules for cheating from above.
