Faculty Senate Representative

AFCON is a coalition of Nebraska educational and literary organizations that have come together to promote academic freedom in Nebraska. "Academic freedom" is defined as intellectual freedom in educational and research contexts, and includes freedoms of belief and expression, as well as access to information and ideas.

Faculty Senate Representative (1-Year Term, May-May)

This committee meets for 9 months on the 2nd Saturday of the month in Lincoln, Nebraska. Meeting are approximately 2 hours in length. An annual members meeting in Lincoln, Nebraska is required.

RESOLUTION 4416, 5/13/20: BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate President appoints the following to be the Senate representative for a one year appointment, through May 2021, to the Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska (AFCON): Lisa Sample (CPACS).

RESOLUTION 4263, 5/11/16: Faculty Senate Presidential AppointmentsBE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate President appoints the following senator to be the Senate representative to the Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska (AFCON), for a one year appointment from 5/12/16 through 5/10/17, to replace Jayaram Betanabhatla: Jayaram Betanabhatla (to be reappointed).

Senate Representatives Doug Paterson was appointed the 2004-2005 UNO Faculty Senate representative at the September 2004 Faculty Senate meeting.

Resolution 2705,11/12/2003: (Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska (AFCON) Representative):BE IT RESOLVED, that the senate president appoints the following senator to be the senate representative for a one-year appointment, through 05/5/04, to the Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska (AFCON): Beth Ritter.

Resolution 2646, 10/09/2002: Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska (AFCON) Representative BE IT RESOLVED, that the senate president appoints the following senator to be the senate representative for a one-year appointment, through 05/14/03, to the Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska (AFCON): Beth Ritter.

Resolution 2605, 11/14/2001: (AFCON Membership):WHEREAS, the Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska (AFCON) was organized to advance the cause of academic freedom in institutions of higher learning and in elementary and secondary schools across the state of Nebraska, and WHEREAS, members include the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Academic Senate and American Association of University Professors, as well as the Nebraska Education Association and the Nebraska Library Commission, and WHEREAS, the University of Nebraska at Omaha has a strong commitment to the principle of academic freedom, and WHEREAS, the cost to become a member of AFCON is $100 per year, THEREFORE, be it resolved, That the University of Nebraska at Omaha Faculty Senate become a member of the Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska.
