NCJR has produced a research brief entitled “The Predictive Validity of the LSI-R on a Sample of Native American Females”. Recently, a growing body of research has been raising concern about the tendency of Risk-Need Assessments (RNAs) to classify racial/ethnic minorities and women as higher risk than is accurate. To date, Native Americans are one of the most under-studied justice populations and they are not well represented in research pertaining to racial/ethnic bias in risk assessments. The current study uses a female only sample collected from North Dakota to test for differential predictive validity of the Level of Service Inventory-Revised (LSI-R) between Native Americans and Non-Native Americans. Findings indicate that the accuracy of the assessment was greatly diminished for Native American females when compared to Non-Native American females.
