Morgan D. Vogel, Research Associate

I have had the privilege to collaborate with CPAR on several research projects since 2017. My areas of specialization include public management, public administration theory, and qualitative methodology. My research interests focus on understanding individuals' career motivations in public service. My previous research has been published in International Public Management Journal, the Journal of Public Affairs Education, and State & Local Government Review. Prior to joining UNO, I worked for former Ohio Governor John Kasich's communications office, U.S. Representative Mike Turner's (OH-10) district office, the Dayton Fire Department Metropolitan Medical Response System, and the University of Dayton Government Relations office. How did you arrive at UNO? |
I came to UNO to get my Ph.D. in public administration. UNO's Ph.D. program is consistently ranked nationally, and several mentors highly recommended the program and faculty. Although I visited several universities, I loved the atmosphere and collegiality at UNO and the College's commitment to promoting a democratic and diverse society. Originally from Ohio, I liked that Omaha still provided the comfort of Midwest culture and values, too. |
What is your favorite recent project you worked on? |
One recent project that has been exciting to work on is CPAR's project with the Nebraska Business Development Center to study and assess Nebraska's entrepreneurship ecosystem. We interviewed and surveyed key members of the state's entrepreneurship ecosystem. It has been very interesting to learn more about the opportunities and challenges to growing entrepreneurship in Nebraska. I have also really enjoyed the networking component of this project. I like talking with community leaders to hear their assessment of what is working well and what could be improved in our ecosystem. |
How do you de-stress? |
I have found that exercise is the most effective way for me to de-stress. I like the intensity and rhythm of running. During the pandemic, I started walking almost every day. I like being able to get outside, clear my head, and absorb the crazy Nebraska weather. |
